Unusual Flavanones from a Rare American Fern
نویسنده
چکیده
Notholaena fendleri, Polypodiaceae, Farinose Exudate, Novel Flavanone Notholaena fendleri is a rare representative of the genus, growing mainly in Colorado/USA. The white farinose exudate on the lower surface of its pinnules is composed partly of waxy material and partly of flavonoid aglycones. The flavonoid moiety consists mainly of methyl derivatives of the flavanones naringenin and eriodictyol. The eriodictyol methyl ethers are rare compounds; eriodictyol-7 methyl ether is a novel natural flavanone. Three flavones and two flavonols are found as trace constituents only. — The farina flavonoids of N. fendleri form a very typical pattern that is characteristic for this species.

Chemodiversity of surface flavonoids in Solanaceae.
Several species of Nicotiana and Solanum and further members of the Solanaceae have been examined for their exudate flavonoids. Most of the aglycones are widespread flavonols, but rare and unusual flavonols were also found, e.g. in exudates of Physalis and Solanum species. Flavones occur throughout the family, but flavanones are rare. Our data are presented in comparison to previous results. Th...
متن کاملUNUSUAL AND RARE TERATOMAS OF THE HEAD AND NECK: A REPORT OF THREE CASES
Teratomas are bulky lesions that rarely occur in the head and neck regions. They are composed of tissues from all germ layers with varying degrees of differentiation. They arise from pluripotential stem cells and ectopic embryonic non-germ cells. The most common sites of occurrence in the head and neck are the cervical region and the nasopharynx. Three cases of these tumors are reported here...

Flavonoids represent a diverse group of natural pigments widely distributed in the plant kingdom and are an important component of human diet due to their high content in fruits and vegetables. Since many flavonoids have been shown to be potent inhibitors, substrates, and even inducers of various cytochrome P450 isoforms, there is considerable interest in studying interactions of this class of ...
متن کاملLipophilic exudates of Pteridaceae - chemistry and chemotaxonomy.
A number of fern species, belonging to several genera of Pteridaceae, exhibit a more or less conspicuous farinose wax, which is mostly located on the lower leaf surface. Production of these waxes is often correlated with the presence of glandular trichomes. Particularly during the past two decades, a series of publications appeared on the chemical composition of these exudates. The major compon...
متن کاملA Widely Destructive Leiomyoma of the Nasal Septum – An unusual presentation
Leiomyoma of nasal cavity is a rare and benign tumor of smooth muscle origin that uncommonly arises from the nasal septum. We present an unusual case of histopathologically diagnosed locally extensive leiomyoma of the nasal septum which was clinically and radiologically misdiagnosed as malignancy of the nasal cavity. This case report emphasizes the rare occurrence of this entity at this site an...
